How to Find the Donna Kay

UPDATE June 27, 2022
Donna Kay was removed earlier this year as it had become dangerous due to rust, etc.  However, we still highly recommend the walk.  If you are looking for a good reason to go, take (crab) nets with you.  You may have a good chance of catching some blue crabs in nets.

Visitors to Cape San Blas, FL or Port St. Joe, FL often take the hike to the Donna Kay.  But common questions when I mention the Donna Kay are  'what is the Donna Kay', 'why would I hike to it', and the most common question is 'Donna what'?

Hurricane Michael left a large impact to the area and recovery is still underway even after two years. The storm left a shrimp boat, called the Donna Kay beached about two miles from the rocks (aka Stump Hole). This is a great hike but be prepared with suntan lotion, water, bug spray and water shoes (probably not flip flops).

There are lots of downed trees and other obstacles you may have to navigate and depending on the tide, you may or may not be wading through the water. However, it is a great hike for those capable of making the trip. There have been a few attempts to remove the Donna Kay but as of 2021, it is still there. Highly recommend you do not climb on or get into the Donna Kay as it is rusty and dangerous but great hike to go see.

This is a unique and fun hike - Highly Recommended!  If this hike is too much for you or you are looking for other hikes on Cape San Blas, consider the Martime Hammock Trail which is only 1/2 mile and provides easier navigation but well worth the effort as well.

Directions:

* Find a parking spot along the Rocks (aka Stump Hole).

* Start your hike heading to the left (as you face the Gulf).

* Head about two miles until you see the Donna Kay.
